SUPPORT THE CENTRE SOCIALE MOKILI NA POCHE
In January-February 2025 we are enabling a series of instrument building workshops in Kinshasa, DRC, led by members of the band Ngwaka Son Systeme to teach and inspire the youth of the Bandalungwa district. The workshops are taking place at the Centre Sociale Mokili na Poche. The documentation of this event will be shared in several media formats, to preserve and make it available to the world.
The workshop is funded by Roskilde Festival Fund but the centre still relies on external donations. Read on to learn about the project and how to donate to the centre
WORKSHOP FACILITATORS: NGWAKA SON SYSTEME
The workshops will be conducted by Love Lokombe and Boms Bomolo - both musicians and scene innovators - who will share their expertise on DIY-instruments crafting with the local youth. Their band's EP "Iboto Ngenge" is featured as the first band project in the catalog of Eck Echo Records.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
Mokili Na Poche offers regular programs for the children and the youth from low-income families who are unable to go to school or study, but who have an interest in art and culture or seek to develop their own creativity. In this way the center enables access and participation. By fostering diversification, new experimental artistic practices are born.
The Center is equipped with a music studio which servers as a direct channel for the workshop participants to record the creative output of the instruments of their own making.
Our donation goal
At the end of 2024, the Mokili Na Poche cultural centre organised accommodations for five committed young people who have benefited from the various programmes offered since 2018 and today serve as an example to encourage the disempowered youth of the streets of Kinshasa. To contribute to the development of these children Mokili Na Poche opens its doors invites you to the appeal for funds to purchase and organize kitchen utensils, chairs, bedding and other materials to improve the housing conditions.
- Donations will be collected via Eck Echo Paypal and subsequently transferred to Cedrick Tshimbalanga, manager of the Centre.
